Fundraising, recruitment etc

Fundraising
Running a successul group costs money. This is obtained by a combination of subscription fees and fund raising.

The Subs are £22 per term, due at the beginning of the current term, (Jan, April & Sept) and we will issue you with a receipt.

Each year we need to pay a fee for every person (leaders and children) to the Scout Association for Scout insurance and their administration fees etc. This means we have less than £40 per year per child to pay for hire of the hall, kit insurance and storage. This leaves us with very little to actually run each section, therefore any donations of stationery / equipment etcetera (colouring pens, pencils, crayons, scissors, adhesive tape, glue and paper etc), rope, string, you name it Akela can probably find a use for it, will be gratefully received.

In order to further reduce costs we are able to send out notices by e-mail (also check out the Calendar to see what's on). If you would prefer this please contact the Scouter-in-Charge at peterallen54@yahoo.co.uk , your e-mail address will not be passed on to anyone else.

If paying subscriptions in cash, correct money only please, if you pay by cheque make it payable to 3rd Rainham Scout Group, & please put your child's name on the back of the cheque.

All leaders and helpers are volunteers and do not receive any payment or claim personal expenses. Back to top
Recruiting new parents
If you feel you can help out at any of the section meetings or at camp or on a day out please speak to a leader and ask for the CRB form. These need to be completed at least 2 months prior to any involvement.

You do not need any experience of Scouting (or Guides) but if you have that'd be great, otherwise all you need is plenty of energy. Back to top
Recruiting new Young People
We can take names for each section's waiting lists. Just ask a leader for an application form. Back to top
Gift Aid
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid provides a great opportunity for donors to increase the value of their donations to charity by up to 28%

Who can use Gift Aid?
Any UK tax payer wishing to make a donation to a recognised UK charity, large or small, regular or one-off, can use Gift Aid to increase their donation.

By selecting "Gift Aid" each time you make a payment into your Charity Account, we will reclaim the tax from the Inland Revenue and add it to the balance.

Donors who are liable at the higher rate of income tax can claim the difference (currently 18%) between the higher rate of 40% and the basic rate of 22% on the gross donation.

If you pay a lower rate (10% or 20%), tax can still be claimed back at 28p for each £1 you donate, provided you pay enough tax to cover the claim on the gifts.

We do require someone to process the paperwork for us so if you can help please contact Akela at peterallen54@yahoo.co.uk.

Company Schemes
Many employers provide donations of time (of their employees) or grants/donations. Some even donate equipment, both new and obsolete. 3rd Rainham can make use of any form of donation although any equipment must be safe to use, worn out rope or tools are of no use to us. If you wish to make a donation of any kind please contact Akela at peterallen54@yahoo.co.uk. Back to top
Who do we fundraise for ? - updated
Our current fundraising efforts for people other than our own group are:

Thriftwood's "Bricks for Blocks appeal".
Thriftwood is our local campsite and has great facilities (apart from the toilet and shower blocks). This appeal is to raise funds to replace the old AND build new blocks on site. Cash is the preferred option but we will also collect unused building materials and deliver them to Thriftwood, these materials will help keep other costs and time down allowing the workers to focus on the new blocks.

We will be doing a sponsored event for Thriftwood crossing the Thames (over and under) on Saturday 30th September.

Ellie May Fund. £150.

We raised £80 at the AGM raffle and added £70 to it from money the Scouts received from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Ellie May Challis has suffered from Meningicoccal Septicaemia and since leaving hospital Ellie has made a remarkable recovery and can now crawl and use her arms as if it was natural and recently received a bravery award organised by Closer Magazine.

She has been fitted with NHS legs which are very heavy and have no moveable joints. To enable Ellie to have as normal a life as possible The Ellie May Trust has been set up to provide prosthetic limbs. Each limb costs £2,000 - £4,000 and she may need 2-3 sets per year depending on how she grows.

There are NO administration costs; every penny goes into Ellie's trust
